Will AI Send Your Guests to You, or to an OTA?

Travelers are starting to ask AI assistants where to stay, and some can now book the room too. Here's how to make sure the AI gets your hotel right and the booking lands with you, not a middleman.

More travelers now skip the ten open tabs and just ask: "Find me a quiet hotel near the airport with free parking." An AI assistant suggests two or three options, and increasingly it can book the room too.

Google started taking hotel bookings in AI Mode in August, and Meta launched its Muse travel agent in September. When an AI recommends your hotel, two things matter: does it describe you correctly, and does the booking come to you or to an OTA?

Early signs favor the middlemen. In a September test reported by Hospitality.today, Muse sent hotel searches to Expedia and Hotels.com. Even Hilton, Marriott and Hyatt now list AI agents as a risk to direct bookings.

Own your content

AI assistants repeat what they find on your website, Google profile, OTA listings and reviews. If those disagree, the AI guesses. Make sure the details guests ask about are right everywhere: parking, pet policy, check-in times, breakfast, and real room photos. The easiest way is to keep it all in one system that updates every channel, with your own website as the source you trust most.

Own the booking

You don't need to wait for AI agents to win direct bookings from search. Today, that means:

AI booking for independents is still coming. Google says it will open AI Mode booking to more hotels "over the coming months". When it does, hotels with live rates, clean content and their own booking engine will be ready first.
